Hard-to-find basket from the T'boli Peoples in Mindanao. This intricately woven example was crafted from an intricate overlay of both natural and smoked split bamboo. The top and base of the basket are covered with a series of different geometric designs. Unlike the majority of baskets that were crafted for practical necessity around the household, farm or field; this one was designed for personal use.
In terms of the craftsmanship, this example is transitional - meaning the basket 'transitions' from a square to a circle. Both the lid and base of this piece exhibit these characteristics; the lid from the top down to the opening and the base from the bottom up to the opening. This basket has been immaculately maintained and both the lid and the base are 'resilient' where they meet up with no splitting or cracking on the bamboo rim.
This art piece is suited for a collector or university art museum. Build an authentic 'gallery-quality' collection and look for other vintage Philippine baskets that we offer. Perfect in Coastal Modern, Organic Modern or Globally-Inspired environments.
