Vintage Doña Rosa Barro Negro Round Decorative Saucer with Four Birds, Signed - 3.87" Diam X .62" H

Doña Rosa Real Mateo (1900−1980) was an artist from San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. She hand-molded her ceramic pieces and then invented a method of polishing/burnishing the Barro Negro pottery with quartz stones that gave them a unique and distinctive shine.

This example is a small saucer/catchall with a round shape and is decorated with four birds - one in the center surrounded by another three. It has a smooth black finish and signed on the underside 'Doña Rosa S.B. Coyotepec Oax Mexico.' Place it in a range of décor styles from Southwestern, Boho... to Mid-Century or Spanish Revival.

Date of Manufacture: 1950s-1960s 

Condition: Very Good
