Vintage Baule Portrait Mask from Ivory Coast - 19.5" H X 6" W X 4" D

Post-colonial period portrait mask from the Baule peoples featuring geometric crescent coiffure, orange pigment with kaolin clay accents, a serene face with coffee bean eyes, a small nose and mouth with delicate protruding lips, and several ridges along the middle edge of the piece. The back rim has holes for costume attachments, the patina varies from light to dark brown, and it is presented on a new custom black stand.  

It is an exceptional work of vintage carving from the Ivory Coast that would be perfect in a wide range of interior environments from an entry to a great room or a study in a Modern, Mid-Century... to Boho or Coastal Modern Design setting.
