Vintage clay ceramic folk art figure of a young girl. This hand-sculpted piece has intricate designs on every side. She is wearing a frilled, sleeveless blouse and a long skirt with two wide, spaced red bands surrounding the skirt. In addition, she is wearing a necklace; her arms are down and her hands are facing inward. Her head is large in proportion to the rest of her body with her hair in two braids resting on each shoulder. Her face has very large cheekbones, an open mouth, and slanted eyes with arched eyebrows. The color of the figure is a matte tan color.
This figure is wearing traditional Mexican clothing and is of the type worn by the women of Jalisco, Mexico - a skirt and a matching blouse. The state of Jalisco is highly regarded for their diversity and quality of its wares. Ceramics of Jalisco have a history that extends back to the pre-Hispanic period. Hard-to-find and would make a great accent for a collector in a range of décor styles from Southwestern, Coastal... to Rustic or Boho.
