West African portrait mask from the Guro Peoples with small 'c' shaped ears, high arched eyebrows, a long slender nose, half-moon slit eyes, three additional scars on each side of face, and a small open mouth showing filed teeth. The face is painted red with black and white painted accents, has a top knot coiffure and a rectangular block connected to a striated coiffure descending just above the ears. Three large scarifications are also present on the forehead.
There are several holes drilled for hood attachment and the back of mask shows good varied carving and evidence of ritual dance use. It is mounted on a black metal base and would be perfect in a wide range of interior environments from an entry to a great room or study in a California Casual, Eclectic, Boho or Coastal Modern setting.
