Vintage Hausa Basket - 14.25" Diam. X 5.75" H

Traditional weaving techniques were used to make this basket from the Hausa peoples of Nigeria. This coiled gathering basket is made from various types of grasses and is constructed with a smooth exterior and the interior being rougher in finish. This piece has a dark buff-colored background with geometric patterns in black, green and red. 

While the purpose for the piece was utilitarian, the intricate designs give it artistic value. It is symmetrical, edges are in tact, and would be perfect for Southwestern, Mid-Century, Boho or Coastal Modern Design interiors.
