This unique piece is a percussion instrument 'hand drum' with a body made from a dried gourd that is cut on one end. Its single head is made with a leather hide that has been stretched across the opening and glued taunt around the edges.
Sound is made when when the instrumentalist's hands tap the top piece of hide. Also, a violin-like sound is made when the string is pulled through the head of the piece. A cord made out of a natural fiber rope is used to hold it around the neck.
The instrument has an overall natural color with a honey/orange tinge. A very unusual and unique creation, this instrument conforms to no known drum types. It would be a great addition to African Art Collection, a gift for a Musical Instrument Collector, or a décor item in an interior setting with natural organic pieces.
