Ancestral spirit figure from the Alamblak or Yimam Peoples of Papua New Guinea (PNG). It was collected in the 1960s and has characteristic inward-curving hooks representing ribs, a central projection and a head. These carvings are associated with hunting and warfare and traditionally found in men's ceremonial houses. This wooden piece was hand-carved and painted with lime (white), red ochre and other native paints.
A genuine ritual object from Papua New Guinea complete with a custom stand for display. It would be a stunning addition to any public or private Tribal Art Collection from Oceania. The muted earth tone colors would also complement a wide range of interiors from Mid-Century, California Casual... to Organic-Inspired or Coastal Modern Design.
